What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are tiny titanium posts that act as “roots” to anchor a dental restoration – a bridge, crown, or dentures – within the mouth. After the posts are surgically embedded into your jawbone, osseointegration occurs, meaning that the post fuses with your natural bone. The result is an extremely durable and stable foundation. After the bone has healed, roughly three to six months after the procedure, a second visit is needed to place a customized, natural-looking, and fully functional prosthetic.
The Procedure: What to Expect
Serving Denver, Cherry Creek, Lodo, and surrounding communities, University Dental Arts provides consultations to determine whether patients are suitable candidates for the dental implant procedure. Candidates need to be in good general health, with a satisfactory amount of jawbone present at the proposed surgical site. Because a missing tooth can lead to the absorption and weakening of the surrounding jawbone, a bone graft may be needed to reinforce the jaw.
Dr. Redford works closely with each inpidual to create a personalized treatment plan, referring dental implant patients to a reputable and trusted oral surgeon or periodontist for placement of the implant. By working closely with the specialists we have forged lasting professional relationships with, we can ensure that your treatment will benefit from seamless planning and communication at every stage.
After osseointegration is complete, an impression of your mouth is made, and our state-of-the-art laboratory creates a customized prosthetic that is matched to the natural color of your existing teeth to an exacting degree. If you are being fitted with a full set of dentures, we will make sure that the color, texture, and size of your new teeth are natural and that they complement your smile and other facial features perfectly. In either case, the result is a fully restored, fully functional set of teeth.
Because dental implants offer a fixed, permanent base to support crowns, bridges, or dentures, you can rest assured you won’t suffer from the frustration and embarrassment that are often caused by traditional dentures. Not only will you experience renewed self-confidence with a healthy-looking smile, but your speech and chewing capabilities will be greatly improved.
